Part-time Work
Application Eligibility
- Holders of a student visa (D-2) (Excluding students with F types of visa)
- Those who have a certain level of proficiency in Korean language and have excellent grades in the previous semester
- For English track courses, TOEFL (iBT 71), IELTS 5.5 or higher score is required. However, students from countries whose native language is English are exempt from submission.
- Those who are residing in Korea and confirmed by international student coordinator at Office of International Affairs
Allowed Time
- Undergraduate students: up to 10 hours per week
- (1st year~2nd years) Up to 30 hours(weekdays) or unlimited hours(weekends&vacation) per week permitted for international students who meet one of the following Korean proficiency level: a) TOPIK level 3 or higher; or b) KIIP(Korea Immigration & International Program at www.socient.go.kr) level 3 or above; or c) Korean Education at King Sejong Institute Foundation completion of Intermediate 1 or above OR pre-evaluation test 61 points or above
- (3rd year~4th years) Up to 30 hours(weekdays) or unlimited hours(weekends&vacation) per week permitted for international students who meet one of the following Korean proficiency level: a) TOPIK level 4 or higher; or b) KIIP(Korea Immigration & International Program at www.socient.go.kr) level 4 or above; or c) Korean Education at King Sejong Institute Foundation completion of Intermediate 2 or above OR pre-evaluation test 81 points or above
- Undergraduate students in extra semesters are not permitted for part-time work.
- Graduate students: less than 15 hours per week
- Up to 35 hours(weekdays) or unlimited hours(weekends&vacation) per week permitted for international students who meet one of the following Korean proficiency level: a) TOPIK level 4 or higher; or b) KIIP(Korea Immigration & International Program at www.socient.go.kr) level 4 or above; or c) Korean Education at King Sejong Institute Foundation completion of Intermediate 2 or above OR pre-evaluation test 81 points or above
- Undergraduate students in extra semesters are not permitted for part-time work.
- Research students(students who are preparing thesis after completion of courses) are only allowed to work up to 30 hours.
Restricted Fields
- Act of private tutoring as outlined by the "Operation of Academy and Private Tutoring Act"
- Working for advanced industry and laboratory, where industrial secret should be protected
- Act of working in gambling activity
- Act of working as receptionist at pleasure bar or any adult entertainment establishments
- Act of working at place which is contrary to good morals among moral business prescribed by Section 2 Moral Business Regulation Act and Section 2 of its Enforcement Ordinance.
- Other activities that deviate from student status or deemed necessary to restrict employment by attorney general

- Business Registration Certificate (The employer name written on part-time work confirmation form, contract, and business registration certificate must be identical)

- Confirmation of compliance with the requirements for part-time employment for foreign students (Only applicable if the workplace is categorized as manufacturing or construction in its Business Registration Certificate)
- (Applicable for research activities within the affiliated university) When participating in research related to academic studies in the case of receiving a support fund from the university and Industry-Academic Cooperation Research and Development Foundation, one must additionally submit 'Advisor Confirmation Letter' and 'University(Graduate) Recommendation Letter' (free of form).
- In the case of research activities within the affiliated university, approval of qualification for academic related research is determined based on whether the research project awards credits.
Procedures
Step 1: The applicant arranges a part-time job or internship individually and sign a contract
Step 2: The applicant and the officials from the intended place of work fill out a part-time work of foreign student confirmation from together.
Step 3: The applicant applies for the OIA's approval via mySNU portal(https://oia.snu.ac.kr/news/general/4789) and acquires the OIA manager's signature.
Step 4: The applicant makes a visit reservation at the immigration office and files an application.
*Note: You can start working after the part-time work permit is granted. This means the date of application must be earlier than the starting date of the part-time work stated on the application form. Important Notice
- Internships in Specialized Fields: Part-time employment for internships in specialized fields is only available during the vacation period.
- Immigration Office Appointments: When visiting the Immigration Office for submission, you must complete your reservation in advance. Please make your reservation at Hi Korea and visit the Immigration Office on your reserved date.
- Final Approval: Getting the OIA manager's signature does not guarantee final approval for part-time employment. The ultimate authority for part-time work approval lies with the Immigration Office. Obtaining the OIA officer's signature does not guarantee approval; it must be granted by the Immigration Office after their final assessment.

Craigslist is a classified advertisement website with sections devoted to housings, personals, jobs, items for sales, services, communities resumes and discussion forums. Craigslist Seoul is updated regularly with information about full and part-time jobs and internships.
This site is very well-organized, presents a wealth of information on job offers, and allows for quick, detailed and advanced search for part-time jobs, internships, full-time jobs, etc. They also offer information on recent contests and tips on how to write resumes. The main page when you enter the website has all the job offers by big companies, a short description and the deadlines, making it easy to search through the tons of job offers. The website itself and the front page is mostly Korean, but there is usually a job description and details written in both Korean and English. They even have maps showing the location of the companies and guides on the application process.

Idealist is a global network of people and organizations working towards the goal of a world where all people can live free and dignified lives. Idealist connects millions of people around the globe with jobs and volunteer opportunities posted by 90,000 organizations around the world. This is a really useful website not only for finding jobs and internships around the world but also about volunteering activities, events and organizations. The website is available in English, Spanish and French. You can sign in to get regular updates and also post updates about jobs and internships.
It is one of the largest employment websites in the world which is operated and owned by Monster Worldwide, Inc. In 2006, Monster was one of the 20 most-visited websites out of 100 million worldwide, according to "comScore" Media Metrics (November, 2006). Monster is primarily used to help those seeking work to find job openings that match their skills and location. The company employs approximately 5,000 employees in 36 countries. The website has information about jobs and internships in Europe, Asia, North America and Middle East. It also provides advice and consultation on CV/Resumes. Moreover, there is the option of 'career resources' where you can find tips on job finding, job and internship interviews, and CV writing.
